A quiet wedding
After the First World War, so many were in mourning. Lady Mary Codrington had been widowed right at the beginning of the war; at the end of the war, she married again. This time to her brother Alasdair’s friend Arthur Balcarres Wardlaw Ramsay. Among the guests were her parents, Lord and Lady Saltoun, brothers General Fraser with Mrs Fraser, and George Fraser complaining about leaving his shooting party in Argyllshire. Her first mother-in-law, Mrs Codrington, was there, along with Viscountess Hambleton and her son Lord Hambleton. Julia, Marchioness of Tweedale also travelled to St Mary’s Cadogan Square on 11 September, to support Mary and wish her all happiness. Arthur’s father was dead by then, but what about his mother. Can she be spotted in the photos?
