Margaret Martin, widow
Mrs Margaret Martin, Widow

Mrs Martin was a clergyman’s widow; she had been a companion to Lady Anne since before her marriage and went with her to live at Tillicoultry House, where she was a member of the family, and was frequently sketched by Lady Anne.
She corresponded with Lady Anne’s sons and nephew Alexander Lindsay, and was very involved with the care of Charles Lindsay’s daughters, who came to live at Tillicoultry.
After Charles Lindsay’s death, his widow lived at Tillicoultry for a while before moving to Leamington Spa with two daughters, and Mrs Martin, tired of Lady Anne’s domineering ways.
Lady Anne left her an annuity of £45 at the age of 75 in her will dated 1846. Mrs Martin can be glimpsed in this family sillouhette, standing on the far left, along with William.
